How do we grease our beloved lift keels?

      There are two ways:

      – When putting the keel out to dry, it’s best not to put antifouling on the leading edge of the keel, but to grease it well with silicone grease. Putting this grease on after the antifouling is counterproductive, because after three or four runs the antifouling will be scraped off and the leading edge will be left greaseless…not good.

      – Another little-known method is from the inside. You need to reach under the white tarpaulins on either side of the table to uncover the two grease inserts. But that would be too simple. Having a grease gun: easy, except that there aren’t any marine silicone grease cartridges on the market. Well, there is a trick: use an old car grease cartridge and refill it with silicone grease. It’s not easy, but when you like it, you don’t count! Three or four boats in a harbour should get together and lend it to each other.

Four or five vigorous strokes of the pump twice a year on each side, placing the hose over the protruding nipples, will keep your keel happy, and it will thank you for it.
