NKE Class B transponder

Good evening,
Do any of you have a NKE AIS class B transponder on board? If so, I’d appreciate a little feedback before investing… Any feedback on the subject of AIS transponders.

Ciao Eric, I’m Giuseppe and I have a POGO 30 EVO in Sanremo, Italy. I’ve been equipped with a NKE transponder since I bought my boat in 2004. In my opinion, it’s perfect. You have to connect it to a PC to set it up, but it wasn’t too complicated. I’m a fan of NKE and I have nothing to say against the transponder!!!! If you have any questions I’m at your disposal.

In my opinion, most transponders use identical components. What changes is the user interface, more or less elaborate, but many are managed by the proAIS2 software, which allows you to define the boat’s name, dimensions, etc….
The MMSI is defined in the same way, but can no longer be modified without the manufacturer’s help. At Digital Yacht, for example, this is done by sending a single-use code.
Modern transponders generally incorporate GPS, which simplifies connection.
In addition, there may be an NMEA connection and a Wifi server. On a NKE installation, the wifi/nmea box is often present, so it’s not necessary.
Finally, they can integrate an antenna splitter. If there isn’t one, one can be added, but it must be compatible with a transponder (more sophisticated and expensive than a receiver splitter). All in all, it’s probably cheaper to have a product with an integrated splitter. Of course, if you’ve got two antennas, you don’t need one!
There are two types of B transponder, but I think it’s best to choose the 5W SOTDMA ones, which won’t “disappear” from the traffic when there are lots of targets.
