I would like to have an idea of the price for a saildrive seal change, on an 850, (Volvo D1-20 engine), all included. Is access to the base and seal difficult, as I’ve already heard? What are the main difficulties?
If anyone can share their experience with me…thank you.
And a recurring question: can we keep the old gasket longer than the 7 years recommended by Volvo for replacement, by monitoring it regularly? I’d say yes, but if anyone has any experience of this, I’m obviously interested.

changing a gasket is expensive, but I haven’t done it yet, even though my 850 was launched in February 2005. The mechanic who inspects my installation assures me that he has never seen a seal in poor condition, regardless of its age at the time of replacement, up to 17 years. I intend to have it changed after 12 years, but I’d do it before going on a long cruise if I had to go far away.
