Hello !
The gel coat on my 2002 pogo is blue, but the color is very dull now. How can I renovate a colored gel coat?- soft abrasion by hand with body shop sandpaper?
- apply a polish purchased from an accastilleur?
- no polishing with a sander I imagine, so as not to leave any marks .
- maybe put a plastic film over the whole hull, but that’s expensive.
What have you tried and what can you recommend?
Thank you for your answers.21 March 2019 at 07:18 #6960For those who have a pastel-colored gelcoat hull like mine in light blue, it’s obvious that over the years the result isn’t great… the shine is gone and the white streaks are downright ugly. We now have the option of filming our hull for an increasingly low cost, but the slightest hitch sends us back to square one. At the boat show last December, I saw an interesting demo of an innovation in the world of polishing: the PadXpress Nautic. In early January I contacted the supplier, who referred me to his distributor with preferential conditions negotiated for all 2019 AIP members. Since then, this polishing range has won first prize for innovation at the Miami boat show in March 2019.The PadXpress features an integrated tank offering speed and comfort. Positioned on a rotary polisher that can be rented by the day, a simple press releases the required product (demo must be requested before use).This economical process will enable you to work without stopping or spraying.
First a regenerating PadXpress, then a second ceramic PadXpress. No need to worry about quantity: the first is sufficient for the generous shapes of the 8.50, while with the ceramic it would be possible to make two hulls… Count on ten hours to regenerate a very, very tired hull and five hours to apply the ceramic. The result is stunning, and rewards the efforts made. The hull is splendid again. With a two-year warranty. To your polisher. Take heart! To find out about preferential sales conditions, contact AIP.

I don’t know if the offer is still valid, but I’m interested. I’ve looked at the demos, and they’re quite impressive indeed!
Thanks for giving me the procedure if ok 🙂
Have a nice evening

One year on, the result is pretty good. You’ll have to travel from Brest to Morbihan to buy the two pads and rent the polisher for a weekend. It’s practically indispensable because it runs very slowly and has the advantage of being light because it’s battery-powered. I’ll send you my contact details by PM so that I can tell you in person;
Have a nice day!
